Overview
Consular processing is the path to a green card for individuals who are outside the United States, or who are not eligible to adjust status from within the country. After an immigrant petition is approved, the case is forwarded to the National Visa Center and then to a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad, where the applicant attends an interview and, if approved, receives an immigrant visa to enter the U.S.
